Viking House in Tahoe Donner is ideally located to take advantage of the many
outdoor and adventure activities available in the North Lake Tahoe area.  And
with activities scheduled for virtually every day during the summer, it’s a great
time to visit this beautiful, sparkling gem in the High Sierras.  Here is just a
sampling of what’s available;

1.        Golf, golf, golf…there are numerous championship level golf courses in
the north       shore area, including our own Tahoe Donner course minutes from
the Viking House.  And our guest passes provide a very nice discounted rate,
with twilight rounds as little as $55 for 18 holes.  Check out our links for more
information about other outstanding courses in the area.

2.        Fly fishing: from guided outings on the Truckee river – a fabled fly fishing
destination – to the many lakes and reservoirs within an hour’s drive,
opportunities abound for chasing the wily trout and many of his other fishy
friends.  Our links will take you to sites with more information and tips on where to
go and what wooly bug or nymph to use.

3.        Mountain Biking: NorthStar at Tahoe resort offers a great, scenic and
challenging series of rides, using their gondola and chair lifts to get you
effortlessly to the top for a long ride back downhill.  But there is also an
abundance of trails and back road riding opportunities around Stampede, Boca
and Prosser Reservoirs and throughout the Tahoe National Forest.  Use our links

4.        Tahoe Rim Trail – this spectacular series of linked trails completely circles
the lake from the highest elevation possible and can be experienced in big bites
of 50 miles at a stretch or just day hike nibbles.  Either way you will have stunning
vistas at every turn in the trail for a once in a life time hiking experience.  Check

5.        Pacific Crest Trail – another justly famous trail, linking Mexico to Canada,
this trail is most often experienced as a series of day hikes.  The trail is easily
accessible at Donner Summit just a few short miles from Viking House on Highway
80.  Take off and within minutes you will find yourself enjoying the beauty of the
Sierras and maybe just a bit of what those hearty through-hikers see and feel on
the long trip north.  

6.        Another fantastic family activity is a visit to Virginia City, in the heart of the
Comstock Country in Nevada and briefly home to Mark Twain and many other
colorful characters.  This historical landmark is about a 90 minute drive from
Viking House and well worth the trip for a real taste of the old west and the two-
fisted life of miners in this wind-swept place in the middle of nowhere.

7.        Finally, take it easy and enjoy the many family activities and amenities
right outside your door in Tahoe Donner.  There are swimming pools, tennis
courts, a fully equipped workout facility with steam room, sauna and hot tub and,
of course, the beach club and marina at Donner Lake.  You can rent a kayak,
launch your own boat or just park yourself in a lounge chair for an afternoon of
enjoying the sun with a good book.  The kids can play in a cordoned off swimming
area safely within reach and the grill offers lunch, drinks and snacks.  Our guest
passes allow you to use the beach club and marina area at a discount and there
is also an public beach at the west end of the lake.  

As you can see, there’s really no limit to the fun available to you and your family
or friends on a visit to the Truckee area and our Viking House.  And we didn’t
even mention THE lake, minutes away or the many fine dining establishments and
shopping opportunities.  We have included links to direct you to some of the
finest restaurants in both Truckee and the North Shore, including Incline Village
in Nevada.
